At the Extraordinary Meeting of the Borough Council last night a lot of hot air was released on the Labour side as to what the Conservatives intentions were in 2011 and who said what to who in an effort to deflect blame.
However, the issue to be debated was why the Labour administration, three years in power now, have spent £1.4m on legal action during that time, they alone are responsible for this action.
Prior to the meeting a press release was put out by the Council saying that they will not take further legal action. This is what the Conservative motion called for but Labour continues to refuse to accept any responsibility for the waste of money, or to apologize.
Attached is a draft press release clearly detailing the Conservatives plans for Newport in 2011. This press release was prevented from going out because of the closeness of the election when purdah restrictions come into force. Had the Conservatives been elected there would have been consultation of the plans.
