Cllrs Tim Nelson and Peter Scott are enormously proud to announce the birth of a baby olive, on one of their High street trees.
The Borough and Town Council colleagues planted both Photinia and Olive trees last autumn along Newport high street which was well received. By circumstances that are still puzzling horticultural science, they appear to have survived the winter and are, indeed quite literally, bearing fruit.
Cllr Nelson says he'd like to see lots more and understands permission has actually been given now to put a replacement tree of some kind in Central square.
Good news in greening up Newport's fair high street year round to complement the wonderful work of Newport in Bloom.
